Goldin Elite Auctions: Jordan Rookie Record, Kelce Super Bowl Jersey

August was a thrilling month for sports memorabilia enthusiasts as Goldin’s Elite Auction showcased a whirlwind of high-end items that left collectors and fans alike in awe. The event featured a plethora of modern sports cards and memorabilia that captivated bidders, ultimately leading to several record-breaking sales that set the auction world abuzz.

The star of the show was none other than a PSA 8 1984-85 Star Company Michael Jordan card, which stole the spotlight by commanding an astounding $244,000. This sale set a new record for that specific grade, solidifying Jordan’s eternal presence in the collectibles market. Following closely behind was a PSA 7 Jordan Star Company rookie card that made waves by selling for $62,000 on eBay, further fueling the escalating demand for Jordan’s iconic NBA licensed trading card. Additionally, a PSA 6.5 version of the card fetched an impressive $52,460, emphasizing the enduring appeal of basketball legend Michael Jordan.

Not to be outdone, baseball prodigies also made their mark at the auction with record-breaking sales of their respective cards. A 1-of-1 2009 Bowman Sterling Red Refractor Autograph card of MLB sensation Mike Trout, graded PSA 9, captured everyone’s attention by bringing in $192,030, despite the star’s recent injury setbacks. Two modern baseball cards also cemented their places in history with new records: a 2011 Bowman Chrome Red Refractor Bryce Harper #5/5, graded PSA 9, was snatched up for an impressive $184,720, while a 2014 Bowman Chrome Red Refractor Mookie Betts #3/5, graded PSA 10, earned a remarkable $123,220.

The auction also featured a series of coveted 1-of-1 SuperFractor cards that fetched substantial sums. The 2024 Topps Chrome Autographed SuperFractor Elly De La Cruz PSA 10 dazzled bidders with a final price of $116,534, while a Jackson Holliday SuperFractor PSA 10 went for $68,527, setting new public price benchmarks for these rising stars. A dual autograph Ronaldo/Messi SuperFractor from 2023-24 Topps UEFA also turned heads, selling for $67,100 after receiving a PSA 9 grading, adding an international flair to the auction.

Shifting to the memorabilia side, the auction saw fervent bidding for notable items like Travis Kelce’s 2020-21 Super Bowl LV jersey, photomatched to the Kansas City Chiefs’ championship game, which stole the show with a winning bid of $52,460. Kelce’s AFC Championship ring from the same season also garnered significant interest, selling for $34,404 to a lucky collector who wanted a piece of football history. Another highlight was an Aaron Judge 2017 rookie season jersey, photomatched to one of his impressive 52 home runs, which fetched $51,240, adding to the excitement of the event.

The auction further featured a range of top-selling items that drew the attention of collectors worldwide. Notable sales included a 2017 National Treasures Patrick Mahomes RPA #77/99, which fetched an impressive $95,770, showcasing the enduring popularity of the Super Bowl-winning quarterback. Additionally, a 2018 Bowman Orange Refractor Shohei Ohtani #22/75 graded PSA 9 sold for $74,450, underscoring the Japanese phenom’s immense appeal in the baseball card market. A 1996 Mariano Rivera game-used jersey, photomatched to eight trading cards, fetched $51,240, while vintage 1969 Topps Football Series 1 and Series 2 wax boxes also found eager buyers, selling for $32,940 and $31,721, respectively.

Goldin’s August Elite Auction was a resounding success, underscoring the enduring allure of both vintage and modern sports collectibles within the bustling market. The record-breaking sales of iconic items like Jordan rookie cards and Kelce’s Super Bowl jersey only serve to reaffirm the passion and enthusiasm that collectors have for capturing a piece of sports history.
