MLS Scores Big with 2024 Topps Chrome Debut Patch Cards

Major League Soccer has officially joined the craze of Debut Patch cards with its new release of the 2024 MLS Topps Chrome set, set to rival the excitement generated by the Major League Baseball’s 2023 Topps Chrome Update. Launched on December 4th, this new collection has sent collectors into a frenzy as they uncover the treasures hidden within its packs. Among these gems is the highly sought-after redemption card for Hugo Lloris’s Debut Patch, which has already been discovered, sparking excitement across the MLS fan base.

The heart of Brooklyn, New York, witnessed a thrilling moment on December 7th when Andy Wert cracked open a hobby box of this new MLS product at E and J Boutique. Within that box lay the coveted redemption card for Hugo Lloris’s Debut Patch. Known for his exceptional skills as a goalkeeper, Lloris led France to World Cup victory in 2018 and holds the record for the most appearances in the French national team’s history. This year, he made his MLS debut with Los Angeles FC, adding a special touch to the card that both fans and collectors will hold dear.

Priced at a reasonable $120, the hobby box contains two chrome autographs per box, but it was the revelation of Hugo Lloris’s redemption card that stole the spotlight as one of the most sought-after pulls in this set.

The debut of Debut Patch Cards in the 2024 MLS Topps Chrome collection marks a significant milestone for MLS trading cards. Featuring authentic jersey patches from players’ inaugural MLS appearances, this set includes 35 Debut Patch Cards showcasing soccer icons like Luis Suárez, now playing for Inter Miami, Emil Forsberg representing the New York Red Bulls, and Federico Redondo, the rising Argentinian talent at Inter Miami. Among these stars, Hugo Lloris’s Debut Patch Card shines bright, bridging his illustrious international career with his transition to Major League Soccer.

Unlike the soaring prices of MLB’s 2023 Topps Chrome Update hobby boxes, which have reached $400 in the secondary market, the 2024 MLS Topps Chrome product remains an affordable indulgence at $120 per box. With other prominent Debut Patch Cards featuring players like Suárez and Forsberg still up for grabs, soccer enthusiasts are eagerly diving into the chase, hoping to secure their own slice of soccer history.

The unveiling of Debut Patch Cards represents a strategic move by MLS to expand its presence in collectibles, capturing the attention of a diverse collector community seeking unique memorabilia. By showcasing international stars and commemorating their MLS debuts, the league has tapped into a growing market of avid collectors hungry for distinctive sports memorabilia.

As collectors continue to tear open packs in anticipation, the fervor surrounding the 2024 MLS Topps Chrome collection shows no signs of waning. With Hugo Lloris’s redemption card making waves, fans are on the edge of their seats, waiting to see which of the remaining legendary cards will emerge next.
