CCG Acquires JSA to Elevate Collector Services

In the thrilling world of collectibles, a major player has made a groundbreaking move. Certified Collectibles Group (CCG), renowned for its top-notch CGC grading services, has revealed its acquisition of James Spence Authentication (JSA), a heavyweight in the realm of autograph authentication. This strategic union promises a complete range of services for authenticating, grading, and encapsulating autographed treasures, crafted by the best experts in the industry.

Established in 2005 by the autograph enthusiast James Spence, Jr., James Spence Authentication has become a trusted name in certifying signatures, having authenticated millions of autographs and curating a vast database of nearly one million autograph images. With this acquisition, the operations of JSA will still be overseen by James Spence and James Spence III, while the experienced co-owner Mark Pepitone will bring his valuable insights as a senior advisor to the table.

This significant move by CCG, which itself joined the Blackstone portfolio in 2021, answers the growing demand from collectors for a consolidated service that covers all aspects of authentication, grading, and encapsulation of signed memorabilia. While CCG has previously offered authentication through its Signature Series, it lacked a comprehensive authentication and grading service for autographs, a gap that will now be filled with the expertise of JSA.

The merger is applauded for its potential to greatly enhance the options available to collectors of sports memorabilia, autographs, and other prized items by blending JSA’s esteemed authentication knowledge with CCG’s grading and encapsulation services.

Starting from April, collectors will enjoy the convenience of a unified submission process for both JSA and CCG services, simplifying the authentication, grading, and encapsulation of signed treasures. Both companies have pledged further service improvements and announcements in the upcoming months, showcasing an exciting future roadmap.

Reflecting on this acquisition, James Spence, Jr., and Mark Pepitone have shared their excitement for the merger with CCG, viewing it as a natural progression for JSA. They anticipate that CCG’s vast resources and extensive experience will bring refreshing innovations to the field of autograph authentication and collecting.

In the immediate future, JSA and CCG will maintain separate operations as they work on integrating their services. This strategic maneuver is set to provide a more comprehensive and efficient service package to collectors and dealers, marking a new era in the authentication and grading of priceless collectibles.
