REA’s February Auction Sets Vintage Sports Card Sales Records

Robert Edward Auctions (REA) hit a home run with its February auction, raking in over $1.2 million in sales and breaking records in the vintage sports card market. The star of the show was the PSA 5 graded M116 Sporting Life Honus Wagner card, which fetched an impressive $75,000, setting a new benchmark for its rarity and desirability among collectors.

Not to be outdone, a Ty Cobb Blue Background card from the same M116 Sporting Life series made waves by selling for $15,000 with a PSA GOOD 2 grade, surpassing previous records for its condition. The auction saw a surge in interest from registry builders and collectors, particularly drawn to the offering of ten Mint 9 graded cards from the 196 Topps set. Among them, the #2 Roman Mejias PSA MINT 9 card stole the spotlight, commanding a price of $19,200 – the highest for a non-Hall of Famer card in this set and grade.

REA’s lineup of 2,732 items featured a diverse array of collectibles, with top sellers like the 1909-1911 T206 White Border Ty Cobb Portrait Red Background PSA VG-EX 4 card sold for $21,000, a 1934 R320 Goudey #37 Lou Gehrig PSA EX-MT 6 going for $18,000, and a 1986-1987 Fleer Basketball PSA NM-MT 8 Complete Set closing at $12,000, capturing the attention of eager bidders and enthusiasts.

Brian Dwyer, President of REA, expressed satisfaction with the auction’s broad appeal and the enthusiastic engagement of the collector community. He hinted at what’s to come in REA’s upcoming events, teasing the March Encore auction from the 14th to the 24th and the Spring Catalog Auction starting on April 5, promising more excitement and opportunities for avid sports memorabilia and card collectors.

In conclusion, REA’s February auction not only showcased the enduring allure and value of vintage sports cards and memorabilia but also paved the way for future events that will undoubtedly ignite the passion of collectors and enthusiasts. Stay tuned for more thrilling auctions from REA, a premier destination for the sports collectibles market.
