NFL Playoffs Propel Rookie Cards of Top Quarterbacks to New Heights

As the NFL playoffs enter the final stages, the intensity on the field is also mirrored in the world of sports memorabilia. The rare rookie cards of the top four quarterbacks in the league are experiencing a surge in online auctions, attracting high bids and setting new records. From the iconic Patrick Mahomes II to the rising star Brock Purdy, the versatile Lamar Jackson, and the emerging veteran Jared Goff, these quarterbacks are not only making waves in the playoffs but also in the collectibles market.

In the AFC Championship game, fans witnessed a thrilling matchup between Patrick Mahomes, a two-time Super Bowl champion, and Lamar Jackson, the frontrunner for the 2023 NFL MVP award. The NFC championship, on the other hand, featured a showdown between Brock Purdy and Jared Goff, both of whom have been impressive in their passing yards and touchdowns this season, ranking among the top five in their respective categories.

The excitement surrounding these quarterbacks has spilled over into the world of sports collectibles, with their rookie cards attracting staggering bids on popular auction platforms like eBay. One standout item is a 2017 autographed Panini National Treasures Black card of Patrick Mahomes, which fetched an impressive $19,300 on 62 bids. Another notable Mahomes card, a 2017 signed Panini Contenders Rookie Ticket card graded BGS 9.5, sold for an impressive $16,577 from 51 bids.

Brock Purdy’s rookie cards have also been commanding lofty prices. A 2022 Playoff Contenders signed Rookie Ticket “Cracked Ice” variation, graded PSA 10 and limited to just 22 copies, saw a winning bid of $10,268 on 27 bids. This follows a trend of Purdy rookie cards selling for over $10,000, such as a 2022 National Treasures signed patch card graded PSA 9 that garnered $15,000 on 53 bids.

Lamar Jackson, the versatile quarterback known for his electrifying plays, has seen his rookie cards soaring in value as well. A Gem-Mint 2018 Panini Prizm Black Finite card of Jackson sold for an astounding $51,100 on 76 bids. The demand for Jackson’s cards is evident in another sought-after item, a 2018 National Treasures autographed patch card numbered #27/99 and graded BGS 9.5, which fetched $18,000 on 39 bids.

Despite a mixed start with his previous team and subsequent improvement since joining the Lions, Jared Goff’s rookie cards are also attracting growing interest. A 2019 Panini Absolute Kaboom! card, a gold variation that was limited to just 10 copies and marked #6/10, went for an impressive $3,049 on 50 bids. Additionally, a 2016 Donruss Optic Gold Prizm rookie card marked #2/10 and graded BGS 10 fetched $2,950 on 32 bids, showing that Goff’s value is on the rise.

As the NFL playoffs heat up, the passion and excitement of the games are mirrored in the sports memorabilia market. The rookie cards of these top quarterbacks are proving to be valuable and sought-after items, with collectors and fans willing to pay top dollar to own a piece of football history. As the journey towards the Super Bowl continues, it will be fascinating to see how these rookie cards continue to capture the imagination of collectors around the world.
