PWCC Sets Record with Michael Jordan Card Sale

PWCC Marketplace’s November Premier Auction saw another incredible sale as a Michael Jordan card shattered records. The 1998 Skybox Premium Stars Rubies edition of the highly sought-after basketball legend’s card was sold for an impressive six-figure sum of $216,000. This sale establishes the card as the second-most expensive Star Rubies card ever sold, adding to its allure and value.

The 1998 Skybox Premium Stars Rubies card series is well-known for its introduction of serial-numbered cards, creating rarity within the hobby. The Star Rubies and other unique editions, such as Skybox’s Precious Metal Gems, have been highly coveted by collectors. However, this particular 1998 release holds even more significance as it was the final Skybox set to feature Jordan before his 1998 retirement. The sentimental value attached to these cards makes them especially valuable among fans and collectors alike.

The intricate foil details and edge-to-edge design of the cards contribute to their rarity. Due to their delicate nature, these cards are often prone to wear and damage, further increasing their scarcity. The record-breaking Jordan card, which received a PSA 7 grade, stands as a Pop 4. This means that only four cards of this type have received the same grade, with a mere five others graded higher. The combination of scarcity, condition, and the iconic status of Michael Jordan makes this card a true gem for collectors.

The auction also witnessed remarkable sales of other collectibles. Despite its less-than-perfect condition, a PSA 1 (MC) graded 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle #311 card fetched an impressive price of $35,400. This highlights the enduring popularity and value of iconic baseball cards. Another record was set with the sale of a Kobe Bryant 1999 Upper Deck Game Jerseys patch auto card. This card, featuring the beloved basketball player, sold for $32,700, further solidifying his legacy. Additionally, a 2020 Topps Dynasty F1 card featuring racing legends Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas garnered a respectable $20,400 at the auction.

The PWCC Marketplace November Premier Auction continues to captivate collectors with its record-breaking sales and highly coveted items. The recent sale of the 1998 Skybox Premium Stars Rubies Michael Jordan card not only sets a new benchmark for this particular parallel card but also highlights the enduring appeal of sports collectibles. With its combination of rarity, condition, and the captivating presence of one of basketball’s greatest, this sale cements the card’s place as a prized possession for any collector.
